Prospective Students
How to join the lab
Take the entrance exam for degree programs administered by the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology at Osaka University. Note that this lab is within Multimedia Engineering major.
Undergraduate students enrolled in Information Systems Engineering Course of Div. of Electronic and Information Engineering, School of Engineering can choose this lab as their lab assignment for the final year of study.
We no longer accept new students to the natural language processing team.
Lab tour for prospective students
All tours/info sessions will be in Japanese.
We plan to hold the next lab tour around March 2025.

Doctoral Degree Program
The Big Data & Graph AI Laboratory at Osaka University is dedicated to advancing the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence with database systems. Our research spans various cutting-edge areas, with a strong focus on developing intelligent and scalable database systems.
Research Focus
As a PhD candidate, you will engage in innovative research in the following areas:
- Machine learning-driven query optimization: Enhancing database performance through AI-driven optimization techniques.
- Large-scale graph neural networks: Developing scalable algorithms for graph-based data analysis and processing.
- Homomorphic Database System: Exploring secure and privacy-preserving database technologies using homomorphic encryption.
- Bidirectional transformations for database integration: Developing techniques to seamlessly integrate heterogeneous databases using bidirectional transformations.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research, publish in top-tier conferences and journals, and collaborate with leading experts in the field.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
- A Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- Strong background in database systems, machine learning, or graph neural networks.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) is a plus.
- Good communication skills and a strong commitment to research.
